What is a LCMFT

What is a LCMFT?

A Licensed Clinical Marriage & Family Therapist in the state of Maryland is a clinician with specialized training in counseling couples and families. To become licensed as a LCMFT, a person must have at least a Master's degree in the field of marriage and family therapy from an accredited college, as well as two years and 2,000 hours of supervised experience.

Are you required to see a LCMFT for marriage and family counseling? No. There are other qualified licensed professionals that also offer this service. In choosing a LCMFT, however, you can be comfortable in the knowledge that the person has a good foundation for working with couples and families. Unfortunately, there is no requirement of experience or training in Maryland for a provider to say they see couples and families in their practice .
